Credit Score facts and fallacies

Fallacy: If I apply for new credit, my score will nosedive
Fact: This may or not may not be the case. However, if it does fall, the drop won't be much. For example, if you apply for apply for several credit cards within a short period of time; multiple requests for your credit report information (called "inquiries") will appear on your report. Looking for new credit can be associated with higher risk. One important thing to keep in mind is that most credit scores are not affected by multiple inquiries from auto or mortgage lenders within a short period of time. Typically, these are treated as a single inquiry and have little impact on the credit score.
